Parkour Dangers

What dangers do I have to worry about when participating in Parkour?

Just like any other sport, in Parkour you will have to worry about damage to your muscles and joints from under or over stretching. Be sure to warm up both your muscles and your body before doing any sport activity and be sure to keep hydrated.

If you start to climb up onto any higher surfaces (blocks, walls, etc), at any skill level, be sure to always check the ground and surrounding area to see if there is anything that might hurt you if you land wrong (or even properly). This can include glass, people, animals, stones, water, etc. If it seems dangerous, it probably is.

What's the most common injury in Parkour?

As a lot of Parkour tricks involve flipping and jumping onto your feet, a lot of Tracuers have damages ligaments and muscles in their ankles and feet by landing incorrectly or too hard.

This can be avoided by doing stretches before attempting any tricks, by checking the surrounding area (mentioned above), and by only doing tricks that are at or below your skill level. Even at high skill levels, athletes and Traceurs can hurt themselves by doing relatively simple tricks, so be sure to be careful.
